TECH: Ubiquiti Enterprise Access Hub EAH-8 Unboxing

We are replacing a client’s old access control system, and the new Ubiquiti Access is the platform we’re installing. They are starting with 6 doors in the initial roll-out, and then we’ll do another 8-12 doors over the next few months. The first building will receive one Enterprise Access Hub (EAH-8) unit and one or two UA-Hub single-door controllers. The second building will mirror the first one, with a total of 18-20 managed doors.

They opted for the new G2 Reader Pro’s at each door to have 4K video of the entry/exit events. We’re still deciding whether to use PIR or REX buttons for the exit triggers. The old door control system used a combination of mag locks and mag strikes, so we’re evaluating which way to go based on current needs (retrofitting old doors can be a PITA if the new hardware doesn’t line up).

We’re using generic 13.56MHz ISO14443A MIFARE Classic NFC RFID keyfobs instead of the Ubiquiti-branded fobs or cards. The Ubituiti RFID’s are pretty expensive, and their keyfobs SUCK. The Ubiquiti fob tokens constantly fall out of their silicone holders and they are WAY overpriced (seriously, DON’T buy those!). You can enable third-party token support in the Ubiquiti Access application, which allows you to use any cheap 13.56MHz MIFARE Classic hotel cards or keyfobs like these for 1/10th the price: https://amzn.to/4bw6E9p
